Falafel is a very famous street food of the Middle East. It is eaten with great fervor in countries like Turkey, Egypt, Lebanon, Syria, Palestine and Israel.
Pita falafel is very easy to make. It can be easily made at home. It contains high amounts of protein which is very beneficial for health.
Pita falafel is a recipe for which you will not need to buy extra things from the market, all the ingredients will be present in your kitchen.
Pita falafel is made crispy. Often I like to make it in my kitchen during holidays and eat it with my family.
So let’s know what things we will need to make pita falafel –
Ingredients for Making Pita Falafel
- Virgin olive oil
- 2 cups soaked chickpeas
- 1/2 cup chickpea flour(optional)
- 1/4 cup chopped onion
- 8-10 garlic cloves, peeled
- 1/4 cup coriander leaves
- 1/4 cup parsley
- 7-8 mint leaves
- 4-5 green chilies
- 1 tsp ginger
- 2 tsp lemon juice
- 1/2 coriander powder
- 1/2 cumin powder
- 1/4 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 crushed black pepper powder
- 2 tsp Kashmiri red chili powder
- 2 tbsp white sesame seeds
- Salt to taste
How to Make Falafel
To make crispy pita falafel, first soak the chickpeas in fresh water for at least 7-8 hours. When the chickpeas swell, put them in a mixer jar. Then add chopped onion, garlic cloves, coriander leaves, parsley, mint, green chilies, ginger, lemon juice, coriander powder, cumin powder, crushed black pepper, Kashmiri red chili, white sesame seeds and salt and grind in the mixer without adding water.
When you grind all these ingredients without adding water, the mixture will become a little thick. Adding water makes the mixture very thin. And there is no need to keep it very thin, it is kept a little thick.
After grinding the mixer, take it out in another vessel, then add the rest of the things to this mixture. Now keep this prepared mixture (if you want to make it by deep frying, then add gram flour to it .If you do not want to deep fry, then leave the mixture as it is) in the fridge for half an hour.
Keeping it in the fridge gives a very good texture to the mixture, now add baking soda to this mixture and mix it well. Now apply a layer of oil on the bottom of the pan (if you want to deep fry then increase the amount of oil) and place it on the stove to heat it. On the other hand, apply some oil on your hands and make small patties of the mixture. Applying oil on the hands prevents the mixture from sticking to the hands.
When the pan is hot, keep adding the prepared patties to it. The flame should be kept medium, this will cook the falafel well from inside as well. Due to high flame, the outer layer of the falafel gets cooked quickly but the inside part remains raw.
When one part of the falafel becomes deep golden, turn the falafel to the other side. When the other part also becomes deep golden, take out the falafel from the pan. Prepare the rest of the falafels in the same way.
Tips- If you are deep frying then put less falafel in the pan for the first time. Because the temperature of the oil cannot be estimated the first time. The second time when you get an idea of the temperature of the oil, you can put more falafel.

How to Make Pita
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp cooking oil
- 1/2 tsp sugar
- 1/2 salt
- 1/4 baking soda
- 3 tsp curd

Instructions
To make pita bread, first take 2 cups of flour.. After this, add sugar, salt, baking soda and curd and mix well.
Due to curd, soda gets activated and the dough swells. Now add cooking oil to it and mix well. After mixing soda, curd and flour well, add some water and knead it well.
The softer it is, the better the pita bread will be. Now keep it covered for an hour. So that it swells well. It is not to be kept in the fridge, it has to be kept in a warm place so that the dough swells quickly.
To make the dough swell quickly, you can also keep a thick towel on it. Due to heat, the dough swells quickly. After an hour you will see that the dough has swelled a little more than before.
Soda has to be used here. Soda does not swell much with soda. If you use yeast, it doubles the dough.
Now you will see that small nets have formed in it, it means that our dough is ready.
Apply some oil on the prepared dough and make it smooth. Then make small balls of it for pita bread. If you want big pita bread then make big balls.
Roll the dough and make it a little bigger. Roll all the balls in the same way. Then put it in the oven and cook. The pita bread will puff up and cook in the oven.
How to Make Hummus
Ingredients
- 2 cups boiled chickpeas
- 2 cups white sesame seeds
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 5-6 garlic cloves
- 1 teaspoon cumin powder
- 2 teaspoons lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon salt

Instructions
To make hummus, take 2 cups of soaked chickpeas. Boil the chickpeas in a pressure cooker with salt until 5-6 whistles. Now do not throw away the water of boiled chickpeas, we will use this water to grind the chickpeas.
Now we will make tahini. To make tahini, now we will take a pan, heat the pan and add white sesame seeds to it, fry the sesame seeds till they crackle. When the sesame seeds start crackling, remove them from the pan and keep them aside to cool.
When the sesame seeds cool down, put them in the mixer and grind them. After grinding, mix some olive oil in it and keep it aside. So now our tahini is ready.
On the other hand, put the boiled chickpeas in the mixer. Add garlic cloves, lemon juice, cumin powder, salt, olive oil, boiled chickpea water and already prepared tahini and mix it well in the mixer. Add water little by little so that our hummus does not become thin.
Prepared hummus can be easily stored and eaten for a week. You can eat it with falafel or pita bread.
How to Serve Pita Falafel
To serve pita falafel, first cut the pita in half with a knife. Then put a layer of hummus inside the pita, then put a salad of onion, tomato, lettuce etc. on top of the layer and then place the falafel on top.
